Osamason is an underground rapper who, despite not being a household name (yet), has built a cult following with his unique style and relentless energy. My introduction to Osamason came in late 2023 through a friend, but at first, I couldn’t really get into his music. It wasn’t until the spring of 2024 that something clicked. His song "Pop" started to grow on me, and by the summer, I found myself revisiting more of his catalog. Tracks like "Freestyle," "Bankroll," and "just score it" became undeniable favorites, and before I knew it, I was fully invested.
That summer, I finally gave Flex Musix (FLXTRA) a real listen. While technically the deluxe version of his 2023 project Flex Musix, it felt more like a fully realized album than just an add-on. There are many deluxe versions of albums that I feel like didn't need to exist, but this is definitely not the case; this might be my favorite deluxe album of all time. Everything from the energy to the flows to the beats hit perfectly. Standout tracks like "Kills," "Cartel," "Rehhab," "Trenches," "Str8 Flexin," and "Congrats" solidified it as my favorite album in this lane of underground rap. It took me a full year of easing into the sound, but once I did, I appreciated it in a way I never could have the first time around.
Fast forward to now, and Osamason just dropped his new album, Jump Out. While it definitely has its moments on songs like "Frontin," "New Tune," "Ref," and "Insta", I couldn’t help but feel a little let down. A lot of leaks had surfaced before the release, and I was hoping to see some of them make the cut, but many of them didn’t. Maybe I set my expectations too high after FLXTRA, but Jump Out still proves that Osamason is capable of delivering heat. Even if this album didn’t hit me as hard as his last, I’m still excited to see where he takes things next.
